Hi.My husband has a 2004 Tiburon and last year we noticed the paint was a different color on the gas tank cover (looks faded).Shortly after, it started peeling off.The color of the car is dark blue; there are no other paint problems, only that one area.Has anyone else had this problem?I am wanting to fix it and was considering getting some touch-up paint from the dealership but was not sure if that would work or not.Is there a better way?Thanks!

the gas might have sprayed out while refilling. you should take it to a body shop and have them spray it down for you. Ive had this happen before.

its happening because the gas door is plastic. dont use touch up. take the door off and sand it down, apply a quality primer, paint to match, apply a quality clearcoat. if you want to do it yourself. otherwise, go to a reputable body shop.

Yes, there is a better way. If you can find a way to detach the gas tank lid, have the entire thing resprayed with the same color paint which you can get from the dealership. If you can not get the paint from the dealership, you can have it custom mixed in an auto paint shop if you know the paint code. (All auto paints have unique codes). This will be better than just applying the touch up paint directly on the gas tank lid without sanding it first and applying a primer.

DuPont can mix your color in a spray can, you,ll probably need a spray can of clear as your car should have a''clear coat '' paint on it

l have an 03 with the same issue. my solution.. a billet door. much better than plastic anyway

Actually, a replacement cover from the dealer is not very expensive. you should check that out first.

Yes there is a better way,it is covered under warranty,ther was also a dealer recall on this problem
