I am considering buying a 97 hyundai alantra from this guy.... but he said the air bag light is on..... should l be concerned?? Is it a big problem and if so... would it cost alot to replace?? thanks alot....

The answer to both questions is yes. Do not buy the car as a new airbag can be easily 700 dollars or more.
The car might have been in an accident and the airbag never replaced. Run, do not walk, from this car.

The light it self may just need to be reset.
Or, There could be a bigger underlying problem. Its best to take it to a shop and run a scan on it.
At that point they should be able to tell you whats wrong.

the light could be on for many reasons the most common on a used car is because it has been wrecked and the air bag is not there.
and yes they are expencive to have fixed or replaced if the light is on there is a good chance there is alot more wrong with the car that you can`t see.
my sugjestion is to ask the person if you can take the car to your mechanic or a mechanic you trust and have it checked out they will tell you what is really going on hope this helps

of course you should be concerned.if that is the ONLY thing wrong with it. l would go ahead and buy the car..i would not say it is a big problem as long as it gets fixed..make sure there was not a factory recall on it for that particular year and model.if so then you can take it to the dealer and they will fix it for free...i'm not sure how much it will cost.just call a hyundai dealer and ask.

Dear guy please check the airbag status by OBD (Hi-Scan) system. in that you will clearly get the area of failure and then message me

Walk away from this one, l worked for Hyundai, air bags are not cheap to replace also it may not be available anymore, the airbag is not the only componant in the system, there is the control module, seat sensors, seatbelt tensioners, clock spring in the steering column, any one of these could cost well over 700$.Andmaybe the guy already knows whats wrong and how much thats why the lights still on.
