The noise only happens in 1st and 2nd gear, and only when the cars running between 2000 RPM and 2500 RPM. Sometimes it does it in 3rd gear. Any ideas what it may be?

if its a noise coming from the trans. its more than likely is the through out bearing

what l think u should do is to take the car back to where u bought it and if its a dealer u should make them fix the problem or request ur money back for there crap or hire a laywer to sue for a crappy car with trans problems

More than likely, this car was previously owned by a member of the al qaida network. Probably the noise is coming from the time bomb that is your transmition. Likely, everytime your car is running between 2000 and 2500 rpm, the little timer is ticking down to your ultimate demise. l recommend dropping your car into the nearest lake and running for cover with your arms over your head. (Also, do not drive it to the lake, as it may blow up before you get there.)

Well, ur first mistake was buying a Hyundai. It is a well known fact that they r not reliable used cars. They have the worst resale value for any make of car out there.

Anyway, I'd look at the throw out bearing. Take it to Aamco transmissions. In just about all cases, they can fix a trans problem without having to replace it. Sometimes the problem is even more simple than that. You did not mention how many miles were on the car. Just how abused was the car when u got it? Having a standard trans could also mean a bad clutch. In this case, u got boned.
