l have replaced the alternator on my 01 SantaFe 3x and it has burned out/died 3x...l have also replaced the battery 2x.Each time, the alternator lasts only a few hours...and then has to be replaced again.l have tried this 3x and have not been able to find the cause.Any ideas?
Yes l am doing the work myself since the dealership/mechanic was going to charge me a ridiculous amount of $$. (lol)
Those are all very good suggestions.Although the wiring was installed correctly because there is only one way to install it, l will definitely check all the wiring, harness, ground cables, etc...l will keep you posted. Happy Thanksgiving!

Bad rebuild jobs? Short in the wiring?

Replace the ground cable from the battery to the block.
Also if the alt burns out, what kind of voltage is the alt putting out.
Be shure that the battery cables are good.
Do this. feel the cable. Does it feel smooth or does it have or feel like it has little bumps under the covering. If it feels like it has bumps replace it.

r u doing the work yourself? if so r u certain the wiring is replaced correctly? one side problem of incorrect wiring would be full fielding which causes the alt to charge at max amperage constantly which will do the two thing u r describing-burn out the alt & overcharge the battery. it seems remote that multiple alternators would be faulty but not impossible. l have made the wrong wiring mistake-but only once. there may also be a problem in the harness that plugs to the alt.

Well so far doing it yourself has saved you a lot of money.. l would say there is a short someplace or bare wire that you have not/cannot see.
