Im 17 and looking out for my first car for when l turn 18. When looking around today there were heaps of Hyundai is but, my mum does not want me to to get them, because... she pretty much believes there a piece of crap. The dealer however said they were very reliable, could anyone offer some opinions? And also any opinions on some good first cars too :-) When l talk about hyundais l do mena the older versions such as the excel, as they are the ones that are around the price im willing to pay.

The first Hyundai to be imported was the Excel, which was not Excellent by any means. At that time many Korean products suffered from poor workmanship, in part because there was a lot of conflict between management & labor.
Recently Hyundai went through a makeover, with an eye to improving their products. The effort was successful, & the new Hyundais r both reliable & a great bargain. Just stay away from the older ones.
Maybe u can get a deal on a Chevy Nova, which is really a Toyota Corolla underneath, & a good, solid, economical car. GMC has been offering some great financing deals, though l am not sure what they offer right now.

They and Kia (same company) had a rough stretch as far as reliability. But if you go with the last model year or two, you will find a great quality increase and reliability scores that are only a notch under the Japanese brands.

l had a 1990 Hyundia Excell. l really liked it and it drove for ever on a tank of gas. My dad had a Pony and he was a fan of his car too.

l hate them. they r ugly, cheap, & not reliable. You may be too young to realize this, but foreign cars, all of them, have ruined what good cars used to look like. There was a time when cars were beautiful, even if they were an economic model. Cars used to have lines, & style & class, both inside & out..until the foreign invasion took over with stubby rounded poorly shaped designs. Toyota is r noted to be reliable, but it is well known they have no class or style. If u must buy foreign, l would recommend a Toyota Corolla. Honda is r way over rated & not nearly as reliable as Honda, but Hundai is the worst. Take a look at some Chrysler & Doge models just to see lines & design.they r the last company to produce good looking cars, tho their quality is in question.
