l have a 2008 Veracruz. l do a lot of driving for my sales job and have already 11822 miles on it. l had to have the front suspension/steering rack/mounts replaced due to defect and because the AC/defroster unit failed. Dealer said they wo not cover these items because its out of warranty as l did not bring this down to have 7500 mile service done at 7500 miles and now its over 11 miles. Can they really do this? They wanna charge me $1470 to fix the items out of warranty plus $480 for the 7500 mile service which l have to do again at 15000 miles. Is this fair? Any owners out there? Should l contact a lawyer?

This is not uncommon with Hyundai dealers. Many owners have reported similar situations whereby the Hyundai dealers, in an effort to recover some money on the items covered by the warranty, charge for other extra items such as oil changes & the like. They threaten to void the warranty if u do not have the oil changed by them which is illegal. l would take the vehicle back to the dealer & demand to have it repaired without charge. Tell them u will have the oil changed by an independent service station.

You can have ur oil changed by Jiffy Lube or the like for $30. Hyundais require no special oil. The price the dealer wants for the 7500 mile svc is what the 15000 mile service is so maybe they r charging u for that since u r so close? l do not know. In any event, $480 is the 15000 mile service & be prepared for a $700 service at 30k miles! That the price u pay for that ''great warranty.'' Add all that up & it will cost u more to keep ur Hyundai warranty valid, than a 200k mile extended bumper to bumper warranty for a Ford Expedition would cost you. Value? l did not think so.

If the dealer fails to cooperate, either make a big scene there & threaten to sue or contact a lawyer. l would begin with filing a claim with Consumer Affairs .com & they will help u contact a lawyer qualified in this area. There r many cases such as yours. Hyundai dealers r notorious for this kind of treatment & have the lowest customer satistaction with dealers. Contact the BBB in ur area & complain. Make some waves. Eventually they wil know they have to treat the customer better. Good Luck

l can promise u that this problem is not a ''Hyundai'' problem.it is a few hard-core Service Managers that r not competative with the Jiffy is & Wal-Marts & so when u show up for warranty work, but have not been in for customer pay service, they try to void ur warranty. l am a Service Mgr at a Hyundai dealership & l would not ever threaten to blackmail someone with the BS that this guy has. If u want to take ur VeraCruz to Wal-mart for an oil change & save 10 bucks, that is ur right & God bless you. But twice last week l had customers that came in with oiling issues that had there car serviced at an aftermarket place. The first lady had an oil leak coming from the O-Ring on the cap of the oil filter cartridge. Most aftermarket oil filters do not come with this O-Ring, so they do not replace them. The second fellow came in with the oil pressure light on & we found that the oil changer threw away the pressure valve that the oil filter cartridge slides onto. Both of these people asked why warranty would not pay for these problems to be fixed. But, l would repair the problems that u were descibing & Hyundai would pay for them. But, trust me, if u insist on having ur oil changed somewhere else, do not ask for warranty to pay for something these minimum wagers tear up.Also, ask them if they replace the O-Rings, or u will have an oil leak. Call Hyundai Consumer Affairs or go to another Hyundai dealer.

There is nothing fair about it, sounds like they r trying to shake u down for money. 1st, a 7500 mile service should only cost about $100, all it involves is a oil change & vehicle inspection with a tire rotation, $480 is about what a 30K service should cost. 2nd, that is bullshit that the warranty is not valid for the items u mentioned above. Those parts would have to be replaced by them regardless of 7500 or 11800 miles on the car, unless they can prove u knew there was a problem & kept driving around. There is a list of customer service on ur warranty contact info in ur glovebox with ur owners manual. l suggest u start dialing numbers. If that does not work the next step is to go to http://bbb.org & file a claim against Hyundai & ur local dealer. I've used bbb twice to great success. The more people u contact now the faster ur case will be resolved & u can move on. You also might check with another shop to see if they do warranty repairs.

l would check the warranty book w/ your owners manual. you have 1year/ 12000miles on any service adjustments. that dealer is full of sh!t .

l have a Hyundai Sonata & have done all maintenance outside the dealership. Any defects in the car were all repaired under warranty.
These items u mention should be covered by the warranty & anything anyone tells u about paying for the repairs is flat out nonsense. l would advise simply taking ur Veracruz to another dealer. Just because that dealer is the closest or u bought the car from that dealer does not mean that u have to go to that specific dealership for service & repair.
In any event, let is assume that u took ur car into that dealership & they did a 7500 mile service. That service visit does not require inspection of the front suspension or ur AC/defroster unit. Their claim that u should pay for the repairs then does not make sense because they would not have detected any problems anyway.
One must remember that these service departments at dealerships r private establishments & when charging money for repairs or parts HMA cannot dictate policy at the service department. Warranty claims r an entirely different matter, however. Hyundai will accept the service department is diagnosis & labor recommendations & then will say how much they will pay for the labor involved. This labor rate is always lower than what the dealer charges. For example, the dealership where l bought my car charges $85.00/hr for regular repairs. However, if the repair is a warranty claim then the dealer only receives $60.00/hr from Hyundai. That is why many Hyundai dealers r reluctant to make a warranty claim & instead prefer to blame the issue on customer negligence & charge the customer for it. That way they make more money. This is a problem that many customers encounter at service departments not only at Hyundai dealerships, but others as well.
If u do go to another dealership, let them make the diagnosis. Do not offer any information. If they ask u if & where u performed ur 7,500mile service tell them u did & it was done at a private shop. l would also call HMA & file a complaint with them against ur dealership. When the mechanic at the dealership where l bought my car broke the AC filter housing in the car they accused me of tampering with the housing & breaking it. l argued with them telling them l looked in the owner is manual at the instructions on how to change the AC filter, decided that it was too complicated & thus brought it to the dealership. l called HMA about it & filed a complaint, then emailed the service manager letting him know that a complaint was made & l gave him the complaint file #. You should see how quick they snapped to attention & gave me a new filter housing. HMA also gave me an address of another dealer & l have been going there since.
Again, this is a warranty issue & u should take it to another dealer for this to be resolved. Even if ur dealership agreed to perform the repairs under warranty l still would not have it done there because those people r imbeciles & would probably tell u more things r wrong with the car & want to charge u for it if they were allowed to fix it. As Hyundai says, ''Think about it'': If u had a headache & ur doctor said that u had cancer & was going to have to cut out ur right temporal lobe, would not u get a second opinion? ;-)
Best of luck
