was lookin at one and its around 50-60,000 miles on it and it looks and drives sound.

i took it out again this time with out the dealer and pushed it a bit and a very very quite noise comes from the engine at high revs.ive drove 2 or 3 now and none sound like this.like u would not hear it if u were not looking for it.ive not idea what this is and if it happens to others.

ok,i was told it the engine barings.now im sure that a big job to fix.does this often happen to them??.what sort of time (labour) would it take a shop to fix.

my bmw got a service and it cost 80 for half an hour.

so if its the barings thats got to be a few hours works.is the car worth 2-3k less if thats the problem???

if it a used car at a dealer have the sales person take it to the service dept and have a used car mechanic look at it. it could be as simple as the exhaust heat shields are loose and rattling with higher engine rpm's. or it could be an issue with the engine as well, but l would have to hear the sound to go any further.

by the way, is it a 4 cylinder or a v6 that you are looking at?

uh maybe u should go to the hyundai service center. we're planning to buy a 2002 santa fe. and its controled by an LPG. it very quite!!!!!

There have been previous problems with the exhaust on the 02 Santa Fe. This could be it if its a droning type noise.
Would need more info on type of noise for more diagnosis.
