l have a really hard time pumping gas, as it keeps clicking and stopping. Would anyone know of problems with this? I've gone to the recalss and also Hyundai forums. Thanks..
p.s. l just got the car a week ago....
l did have it checked at Auto Zone, and they said there was a small leak in the gas cap. l checked that and it was a new gas cap. Not sure what to do next.Thanks.

it needs to have a code check done. one of the vents in the fuels system could be clogged up. a code reader will give you the code as to what the source of the problem is. Most engine codes are for emission type problems, and the fuel vent deals with emissions

You can take it to AUTOZONE and they will check the (check engine light ), when they do it will give a code and they can tell you for FREE what is wrong. Otherwise if you take to mechanic they will hook up to computer FIRST , by doing so they charge you for that. Last l knew just them hookn up to machine cheapest was like 75$...

With the filling of fuel, go at a slower speed or pull the nozzle out a bit to see if that will help. May have something to do with the filler neck shape.

Instead of guessing at what the problem might be, take it to the Hyundai dealer and get an accurate diagnosis. They have the diagnostic tools to do that plus they know your car much better than anyone else.

Then you can fix it right the first time, which is actually less expensive than guessing at it.

well your gonna wanna take the car into Hyundai um my van had that be 4 and it was actually a piston that had a problem but your gonna wanna take it to them and let them look it over just tell them you just bought the car and you have no idea to why the light is on or the car may need to be reset the light might be stuck on to do that just disconnect the positive side of the batter for 1 min then connect it again start the car and if its not gone then defiantly take it in.

l go though the same gas pumping thing with my 01' Elantra. It happens to me when l do not fill the tank consistently. l am guilty of driving on almost empty then filling it up only to the half way mark. The nozzle pops out a lot when l do this, but when l fill it up completely the problem goes away.
A station attendant once told me it has something to do with too much air & fumes in the tank.

There is chance ur tank my be faulty. A recall was posted for the 97 Tiburon about it :
VEHICLE DESCRIPTION: PASSENGER VEHICLES. THE EVAPORATIVE EMISSION CONTROL SYSTEMS CAN APPLY EXCESSIVE VACUUM TO THE FUEL TANKS DURING THE CANISTER PURGE CYCLE. IF EXCESSIVE VACUUM IS APPLIED, MINOR FUEL TANK DISTORTION CAN RESULT. A SMALL CRACK COULD DEVELOP ON THE UPPER FUEL TANK SURFACE. THE ''CHECK ENGINE'' LIGHT WOULD THEN ILLUMINATE AND, IN SOME CASES, THE VEHICLE DRIVER MAY NOTICE A GASOLINE ODOR.

l know yours is a 99 but it is the same generation. This is a FREE fix at the dealer if this is the case but since it is two different years the dealer may not honor it. You may have to call a Hyundai Rep to find out if they can help you.
The solution may be as simple as getting a new cap & resetting the computer.

l have the same problem with my gas cap in my Mazda. The gas and fumes go through the gas cap. The light turns on everytime you pump gas. You might have a universal gas cap on the car instead of the original gas cap. If you have the original gas cap, then buy a new gas cap from the hyundai dealer. To reset the engine light, disconnect the battery for at least 2 minutes, then plug it back in. Or you can ask autozone to reset it for you for free.

The only way to check a gas cap is with a vacuum pump. Like the Miller Pump. If you have a new after market gas cap that could be a problem. Only use factory gas caps.
The PO455 code is the most common code that sets for a loose or bad gas cap.
If you bought the car from a dealer or used car lot take it back and make them deal with it.
