l recently just purchased a 2008 Hyundai Sonata GLS (4cylinder Automatic) a little over a week ago. l am in love with the car! :-)...l have 1 main issue with the car tho, while driving the car at low speeds, let is say, anywhere between 0-40 miles an hour, l feel the transmission shift into gear when changing over. The feeling is like a minor jerk to an actual ''push'' forward of the vehicle. l am told by friends that this is the ''breaking in'' process for the car for the first 1000 or so miles. This is my first new car. l am wondering do you agree or could this be a sign of a transmission problem aka - LEMON!!!??
Please if anyone can help me...please...give me some insight of the problem.
OTHER DETAILS
The car has 220 miles on it. Took it to Hyundai Service last night, service did a''code'' check for problems and of course everything came back good. They also took it for a drive and of course either the car did not jerk or they just ignored the problem. THIS IS A 2008 VEHICLE!

Actually that sounds fairly normal if u r accelerating hard, in most cars u can ever so slightly feel when the automatic transmission up shifts. Nothing u described sounds like something to worry about just yet, & if it does u have a 10 year warranty on the transmission. The transmission on the 4 cylinder is more likely to give u feedback because the engine has to work harder then on the V6 model. Test drive some of ur friends cars & let them test drive yours to see if they notice anything, do not tell them u think there is an issue, just let them drive & after-wards ask if they how they liked it & if they noticed anything odd. There really is no ''breaking in'' process for cars for the most part, but it is possible that after 500 miles the engine will be smoother.this is not a rotary engine that actually gets more powerful as it ages though. BTW, Lemon is a bad term & very hard to prove so try to keep calm until there is actually something wrong with the car.do not be so paranoid.

A Sonata has a fuzzy logic computer and for the first thousand miles it will be 'learning' the way you drive. After this period the transmission changes should not be felt. If you still have a problem afterwards, try to pinpoint when this happens ie when the car is cold/hot etc, then take it to the dealer and ask someone to go on a test run with you and try to replicate what you are noticing.

Do a quick seach for other about their Hyundai is and read about their ''break in'' period. Its a joke really. They pass off the problems for what they call a break in period. The only thing that needs to break in is the engine- 3000 miles. You should have bought a Toyota Highlander or Saturn Vue. Both have better resale values and the dealer wo not jerk you around about warranty items.

It is hard to say if this is a problem right now or just a characteristic of Hyundai 4 cyl engines. My Elantra has a minor shift jerk at low speeds to but is generally smooth. I've had it for Hmm..6 yrs and 130000 miles now so l do not think it is a problem more so then it is being a 4 cyl. If it get worse as time goes on then have the dealer look at it again. Do not worry about it too much but keep a eye on it for now.

dude slow the f#$ down.
Give it a couple months for all the gearing and mechanisms to mesh and line up properly.
Hyundai has great cars despite what most think, just take care of it and dont drive like a douchebag, and shell go at least 120,000 miles
thats what l got on mine and never had to replace anythin l didnt break, and still runs like a champ

Do not worry it is new, just let it settle for a couple of weeks. As one of the other contributors stated it has a ''logic'' box, it learns your driving style. If you still have a problem go with them and you drive.
Sun yao lin (or whatever) who told you that you were an automobile expert? You know diddly. ALL automobile writers are buffoons and have no training to work on motor vehicles. Hyundai warranty is second to none, 5 years unlimited mileage

l have a 2008 Sonata GLS also & had no transmission ''shift'' problems. It is as smooth as silk. l would take it back again when u feel it & have them check it out. The break-in is 1200 miles & l would think it will be better as the miles add up. As for it being a ''Lemon'' ..very doubtful. Transmission problems in this would be non-shifting or shifting at about 6000 rpm's. This is probably the best new car l have ever owned. l bought an 2007Azera Limited for my wife & she absolutely adores it. That car is comparable to driving in ur living room.
