well its found in some gas stations im not sure if thats what they mean... but Mtbe is found in water in some states..

MTBE has been banned as a motor fuel additive in the USA, because the ''scientists'' found it was a carcinogen. There is no MTBE in gasolines sold in the USA. Everyone is now using an ethanol (E-10) blend instead, which is perfectly safe for your car.

MTBE is methyl tertiary butyl ether. MTBE was added to gasoline because it boosts octane & is an oxygenate, that is it adds oxygen to the combustion reaction when it burns. An oxygenate reduces the amount of unburned hydrocarbons & carbon monoxide in the exhaust, which is why it was adopted for use in gasoline after the clean air act of 1990.
The problem with MTBE is that it is thought to be carcinogenic. If underground tanks at gas stations leak the MTBE from the gasoline can combine with underground water readily resulting in contamination of wells & drinking water.
In any event, MTBE has been replaced by ethanol in gasoline, which is more expensive but it is not a cancer threat.

Ouch. A new 2008 model and in just 3 weeks, it will be the ''OLD'' model. Have not you heard or done your research before buying a Hyundai? The new redesigned 2009 model is coming out the end of February. That will hurt resale value yet again.

MTBE has been banned by use in US gasoline but is still used in Canada. Just do not drive to Canada or you will harm your exhaust system, and it WILL NOT be covered under warranty. Just a little heads up.
