hyundai reliability is not good/averge. Toyota have the best reliability cars on the road tested by consumer reports. go with the new 09 camry very sexy and big for only $20,000

Speaking from experience - not advise from someone that does not have one....
l have a 2004 Hyundai Elantra and have a considerable amount of miles on it.
Gas mileage has been averaging 32 miles to gallon on highway trips with 2 adults and luggage. ( 6 trips over 1,500 miles)
Dependably has been great and the ''Call Hyundai feature has saved me twice.
l would highly recommend a Hyundai - and in my experience the Elantra in top shelf.

They are very reliable.
The 90 is Hyundai's/Kia is are bad.
But now they are much better.
Great on gas.
Fun to drive
Comfortable and quiet.
They feel quick.

And they have a 10 year warranty. That is because Hyundai is confident that their cars will last that long.

Of course, nothing beats a Honda in reliability, but it is still pretty good.

The first guy (buttersg.)is a pure example of the type of disinformation u will find. The Elantra was just named top pick in it is class BY Consumer Reports. Rated l believe above avg for reliability. It would not be named top pick by them if it was below avg. Again, someone who never owned a Hyundai (3 Toyota's) regurgitating something from the 90's.

The Elantra is not best in class for gas mileage but is still very good (32-33 mpg highway). The big advantages r comfort & safety. The EPA has classified the interior as mid-sized & it has safety systems available like Traction Control & Electronic Stability Control which r not offered on most cars in it is class. It is was not named top pick by CR for nothing

l own a 2007 Hyundai Elantra & have found it very reliable. Consumer Reports gives it an excellent rating as well. l am getting between 36-38 miles per gallon on the highway consistently. Not sure about around town mileage. That being said l have had 2 annoying issues with my car. 1. Water leak from my rear wheel wells which was a factory defect (leaked from the shock strut) the only reason l noticed is because of a road salt stain on my back seat. l took it back to the dealer who supposedly fixed it but didn't, so l ripped out the back seat figured out where the leak was & sealed it(inside & out) with caulking. Been fine since 2. factory car alarm goes off by its self - still working on a solution for that. Those things aside l would recommend this car.

cjgt2 hit the nail on the head! in the 90 is they were horrible but now their great. go to consumer reports and click on the first picture you see, it will tell you how the elentra SE is a better buy than the corolla. not to mention it is 3 grand less. l have worked at both Toyota and Hyundai, both are great but Hyundai are 2-4 grand less.

Our Elantra is great, 29000 miles, no problems, comfortable and on the highway MPG has been as good as 37MPG
