l am worried about accidentally deploying the air bag and cannot find any bolts to undo to remove the steering wheel.

is it out of warranty? if its still covered by warranty hyundai r quite lenient with what they will cover.
there will be l think 3 little bolts with inverted torx heads behind the horn pad holding it in. loosen them off & take the horn pad off. to be safe disconnect battery negative & unplug wiring. make sure steering wheel & front wheels r dead straight & undo nut ( ithink its 19mm).
you will probably have to bash the hell out of the steering wheel to get it off because its on a tapered spline.
then put it back together. the yellow wiring is for the airbag, so do not damage it but as long as the battery is disconnected u r safe

Unless you have experience with air bags l would not touch it! The force that an air bag deploys when not properly handled is enough to break bones and possibly your neck. l have seen evidence of this happening its not worth the risk mate. Your going to have to purchase a new genuine steering wheel any way so for the 20 mins it will take a professional let them do it.

Well , l wo not tell u u SHOULD do it, but l will tell u how I'D do it, LOL! l would disconnect the battery. Then i'd feel around the back of the wheel housing for 2 holes that would contain the fasteners to release the airbag / horn assembly in the middle of the wheel - l know these may be ''Torx Head'' screws , so i'd have my assortment of bits & a driver handle ready to go. Once l release the middle assembly , l notice the wires for the horn & airbag (which r the quick-connector type) & l unhook those. l carefully (repeat.CAREFULLY) remove the center unit, & place it in a safe place, rear seat floorboard has worked a few times for me. Then l see the nut that actually holds the wheel on, & l get the correct socket & socket wrench to remove the nut - l will need a socket extender for this also , since l can not just get a simple wrench with socket in there to get the nut out. With the nut off, l knew in advance that l needed a tool called a ''Steering Wheel Puller & l have it handy - as a rental at my local parts store, where l give them a deposit, which l get back when l return the tool. The tool is pretty simple to use, & it is a simple clamp that pulls the wheel off by tightening a force-bolt that fits into the steering pin , BUT.if l did not know, the parts store will tell me how to use it. Then, it is old wheel off , new wheel on. l will make sure the wheels were straight before l started the project , & line up the marks on the pin & the new wheel as l put it on. Hope my un-official advice helps.
