It just started doing it.When l am driving, the front drivers side wheel makes a constant scraping noise. It almost sounds like metal to metal or something.

When l apply the breaks, the noise completely goes away....the noise is sporadic as well.Sometimes it will make the noise, then another time it doesn't

l am going to have my dad look at it this weekend, because he is the car guy.....but that will involve me driving 80 miles to see him.l honestly do not think it is anything TO serious....just was curious as to what everyone else thinks

FYI, l drive a 2003 Hyundai Sonata....83k miles
Best car l have owned yet
Oh well I am making the trip to see my family anyways....so it is not to much a wasted trip...but l for sure know where you are coming from :P....gas ai not getting any cheaper
It is true l have not owned much....but l did test drive quite a few vehicles....and this one just felt right

It could be the wheel well lining. Make sure its bolted down really well. Happened to my toyota.

Probably the caliper is stuck and the pads are wrecked because of that. Not a huge deal, just need to rebuild the caliper (or get a new one) possibly new rotor and new pads, you will be good.

If the noise goes away when you apply the brakes, then l am going to take a wild guess and say it is something to do with the brakes.

Perhaps a loose dust-cover? That seems most likely.

If so, any shop should be able to fix it in 10 minutes for $10. l would not be making a 160 mile round trip (or even 80) to save that kind of money.

Disc brake pads have a 'wear tab' that is metal and touches the rotor and makes a noise to let you know your pads are too thin. They normally make a squeal rather than a scrape but you never know. Check it out. You can bend the tab out of the way until you can get new pads. Good luck.

If u have a constant scraping noise it is most likely the brake pad warning tab. When u apply the brakes the noise will go away(usually) if there is still some brake pad left. The ''warning'' tab is made of metal & is attached to one of the brake pads on each side.As the brakes wear the tab will start to touch the rotor thus causing the ''scraping'' noise u r describing. Overall just have the front brakes checked and/or replaced & l bet the noise is eliminated. Good luck!!

l had the exact same thing with my 04 Elantra. Your rotors are likely out of true or have lots of rust on them. They either need to be ground down or replaced. l ended up having mine replaced after 4 trips to the dealer.

check the wheel bearings on both sides of car front and back sides. l had this same problem and that was the cause.
