I am inquiring about a couple things related to 1 question. We lost the 2 keys that we were given when we purchased the New Santa Fe 2008 and to my knowledge l do not think that those keys were any type of special ones as with my Nissan car the master immobilizer key had a small blue chip in the side of it and the Hyundai keys were just plain looking keys. Was this vehicle suppose to be supplied with such a key and what did it look like? My question is what to do if both sets of keys are lost what does one do to get a new key cut and WORKING as the dealer said he needs the master key and the vehicle yet we have know way to drive it there or give them any key? Thanks for your help it is much appreciated as I've been reading manuals and searching with no luck,

You will have to probably go to the dealership, because if you try using a copy (i.e. Wal-Mart copy) your car will not start and it might tear up something more. It is probably going to be a little chunk of money. The first thing l would do though is call the dealership.

The keys to ur Santa Fe r not coded with a chip of any kind. They r simply keys with a plastic head. The remote keyless entry is the theft deterrent in most Hyundais. You should have received a key code with ur keys when u bought the car. It is on a black plastic tag & was hopefully attached to ur spare key when u received the books/extra keys, etc. If not, call ur dealer with ur VIN #, he is able to give u the key code & may be able to cut the key if they have a key-cutting machine. If he said he needed a master key, ask to speak to the manager. If u get the key code, u can go to most any locksmith & they can cut the key from the code. If u lost the remotes, u may have to get the vehicle to the dealer to have a new one programmed to the vehicle.
